Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is focused on developing therapies for inherited diseases, including neuromuscular, cardiac, and neurodegenerative disorders. The successful candidate will be a member of the rare muscle disease research team and will be responsible for establishing preclinical biochemical- and cell-based disease assays to enable the efficacy of lead compounds to be established.

In vivo (rodent) experience is desired, to assist in the establishment of muscle disease models.

The candidate is expected to have excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and presentation skills (written and oral) and will need to effectively communicate with internal and external partners.


+ Design and conduct experiments that advance the development of candidate therapies for rare skeletal muscle and cardiomyopathy diseases.

+ Perform experimental studies, carry out data analyses and interpretation, record results in an electronic lab notebook, and stay abreast of novel relevant findings from the literature.

+ Interface with internal interdisciplinary teams.

+ Support in vitro work for other projects in the RDRU portfolio as needed.


+ B.S. or MS with 7+ years of experience in biochemistry, cell biology, or a related discipline.

+ Familiarity with standard cell and molecular biology methods including but not limited to cell culture, siRNA and plasmid transfections, immunoassays such as ELISAs and western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR.

+ Hands-on experience working with in vitro and in vivo models of muscular dystrophy preferred. Experience with culturing skeletal muscle cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, and cardiomyocytes is desirable.

+ Must be willing to work with live rodents and cells/tissues of human origin.

+ Experience supporting a multidisciplinary project team including the ability to generate high quality data in a time-sensitive environment, to assimilate new information from multiple sources, and to effectively communicate with internal scientists.

+ Creativity, self-motivation and the ability to work independently including analysis and troubleshooting of experimental results and reviewing literature to formulate new approaches.


+ Experience with any rare muscular dystrophy research.

+ Experience working in or collaborating with industry.
