Emerging Science & Innovation (ES&I) is a division of Pfizer Worldwide Research & Development and Medical (WRDM) that provides opportunities to unite leading external scientists and the biomedical community with Pfizer's R&D efforts and experts. In partnership with Pfizer Business Development, ES&I colleagues form productive collaborations and flexible partnerships with the goal of advancing breakthrough sciences, technologies and products to strengthen Pfizer's R&D pipeline. The Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI), an entrepreneurial group wthin ES&I, is a proven and productive example of how Pfizer collaborate with leading academic medical centers and disease foundations with the aim of translating promising science into clinical candidates. We are proud to expand the CTI model to the Asia Pacific regions by establishing Shanghai based CTI-Asia Discovery Labs (CTI-ADL) supported by senior R&D representatives in key academic hubs to promote and advance R&D innovations and investments in the regions leveraging Pfizer global R&D capabilities and network of partners.

The CTI-ADL is seeking a highly talented and motivated biologist for Cell Biology & In vitro Pharmacology Function. The successful candidate will contribute to build internal cell biology and assay development capabilities, provide scientific knowledge and technical expertise to collaborations with academic and biotech labs and support internal portfolio projects. S/he will work closely with other biology functions in ADL and WRDM to evaluate and internalize novel technologies. S/he will support collaborations with our academic partners and biotech/CRO companies with the goal of translating science into novel and differentiated medicines for patients.


The candidate will be an essential member of the ADL Biology Group. He/she will use assay development expertise to design and execute experiments to address aspects of basic and translational biology of drug targets, molecular pathways, and relevance to human disease. The candidate will assist with the evaluation, characterization and validation of the mechanism of action of antibody, protein and/or small molecule drug candidates. A variety of cellular, biochemical and pharmacological methods will be employed.

The applicant will function as member of multidisciplinary project teams. He/she will independently perform both literature based and lab based researches, present and discuss scientific findings at project team meetings, coordinate with team members and external partners on activities, resources and timeline to ensure smooth delivery of project team goals. Depending on experience and need, the candidate may initiate new projects and lead project teams. The candidate will have opportunities to collaborate closely with colleagues at ES&I and WRDM across the globe.

The ideal applicant will have extensive experience in basic research, assay development, drug screening and a desire to continue in a laboratory-focused role. The successful candidate will also have a proven track record of scientific productivity as evidenced by publication in journals and ability to participate in a highly matrixed and innovative research environment.

The candidate is expected to embrace and embody the entrepreneurial spirit and biotech-like culture, values and goals of the CTI and contribute to creating an exciting, collaborative, productive and scientifically rigorous working environment.


+ Minimum PhD (+1 yrs) /MS (+4 yrs) in Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field

+ Strong expertise and hands-on experience conducting laboratory research in an academic or pharmaceutical setting

+ Strong background in cell biology, cell based assay development, and/or molecular pathways analysis

+ Previous experience in drug development in pharma and/or biotech environment is preferred

+ Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and highly organized in terms of goal setting and achieving.

+ Ability to succeed in a small, interactive, non-traditional drug-discovery environment
