Job Description Summary
The Senior Associate Director for Strategic Content will manage a team that helps tell Bentley University's story in multiple formats, including online stories, photos, video, graphics and social media. Reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Communications, s/he will manage and edit a team of writers and content producers to create a variety of content that serves a wide range of audiences including students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students and parents, in support of the university's key messages and overall brand.

Essential Duties

  • Manage a team of writers and content producers, brainstorming story, photo, video and social media coverage and editing the content through to publication.
  • Identify and assign stories that demonstrate the breadth of life at Bentley and attract viewers to the website while supporting the university's key messages and overall brand.
  • Manage an editorial calendar to maintain a steady flow of compelling stories about life at Bentley, aligning with key events in the university's calendar, keeping the messaging consistent across multiple channels (web site, social media, etc.), and providing content for the website, social media, e-newsletters, etc.
  • Leverage a strong command of grammar and story-telling to ensure the content produced is clear, interesting and accessible by multiple audiences.
  • Working with the Senior Director of Strategic Communications, help lead weekly content meetings in which story ideas are shared and brainstormed with communicators from across the university, ensuring that the content produced is distributed as widely as possible.


Other Duties

  • Work in a team environment, sharing ideas and collaborating with colleagues both within the Strategic Communications team and across the broader Marketing and Communications division.
  • Manage multiple direct reports in a positive manner that inspires them to do their best and maintains high morale.
  • Write copy for the website and other communications as needed.
  • Post content to the website using the university's content management system. (Training is provided).



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Six or more years of editing, writing and project management experience.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with acute attention to grammar and spelling.
  • Demonstrated ability to proof and rewrite copy for brevity, clarity and style.
  • Ability to work with, mentor and edit writers and content producers.
  • Ability to envision and assign stories in different formats e.g. online stories, photos, video, graphics and social media.
  • Ability to work well in a fun, collaborative team environment.



Work Environment

  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work
  • Ability to travel within and outside of campus for work related meetings and events
