Orrick has an exciting opening for a Senior Financial Systems Data Specialist.  This position could be based in any of our US offices (Austin; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County, Portland, Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica, Seattle, Washington DC or Wheeling, WV) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

What will you do? As a Senior Financial Systems Data Specialist, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the core financial systems custom data groundwork used for reporting, dashboarding, and analysis. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities and expert qualifications in finance & accounting relational databases.  A keen ability to analyze, calculate and fine tune results for consumption by various firm-wide platforms is critical. You will have advanced knowledge of accounting concepts and finance data, complimented by the ability to perform complex calculations. You will further be able to apply these skills to create custom results utilizing advanced SQL.

What responsibilities will you have?

  • Maintain financial data integrity by identifying and correcting problems, as well as providing solutions for procedures that impact finance data
  • Advanced SQL development and expansion of core financial systems databases
  • Strategic compilations of finance data into views, tables, procedures, etc. to facilitate varying reporting, application, and dashboarding scenarios
  • Multi-database integrations (integration with interdepartmental data sources including HR, IT, Marketing and the like)
  • Ad-hoc data transformation
  • Developing, packaging and managing scheduled data update processes
  • Data refresh of multidimensional cube environment (SAP BPC) and reporting databases
  • Optimizing old/existing data update processes
  • Month-end closing
  • Troubleshooting data processing problems
  • Special projects – ad-hoc and planned – to assist with automation, mass updates, data cleanup, etc.
  • Collaborating with developers, DBA and business departments for custom data needs
  • Establish comprehensive documentation and standards

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, Database Management or Finance/Accounting is preferred or equivalent work experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and expanding SQL database content and subroutines/functions
  • 5+ years of experience working with finance data in an enterprise accounting system
  • Advanced knowledge of finance/accounting data and complex calculations
  • Expert SQL scripting and compilation
  • Expert and marked experience in an MS SQL Server environment
  • Ability to assess key aspects of a task and produce an optimized solution
  • Ability to think analytically and thrive in a fast paced, deadline driven environment – both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to engage professionally with top-level leadership
  • Strong attention to detail, solid organizational, interpersonal, delegation and leadership skills
  • Team-oriented attitude with willingness to perform cross-functional tasks and cross-train colleagues via documentation and direct training with an eye toward skills redundancy
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to assume a leadership role as needed for projects and other independent tasks
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent project management, fact gathering, and prioritization skills
  • Flexibility in scheduling to facilitate support urgencies, project timelines, month-end processing, etc.

As an added extra, you will also possess the following strengths:

  • Previous law firm experience is highly desired
  • SSIS, SSRS preferred
  • Experience with underlying data in legal financial systems (Aderant Expert/Elite Enterprise/3E)
  • Experience with general law firm finance technology
  • Experience with programming .NET, C#, Python, HTML, VB.NET is a definite plus
  • Power BI infrastructure and reporting knowledge a plus
  • Experience with cloud platforms and Azure solutions a plus
  • General knowledge of SAP BPC or other specific OLAP cube platforms a plus
  • Accounting knowledge including that which is related to international operations and intercompany transactions
