**Role Summary**

The mission of Process Automation is to provide highly effective automation solutions and provide site leadership with appropriate information collection and reporting, and manufacturing workflow solutions for the Rocky Mount, NC Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) facility.

The Senior Manager, Automation is responsible for establishing the strategy and monitoring programs to appropriately automate production and packaging processes, and to gather data from those processes into data historian system. Systems will be designed or remediated to provide robust and repeatable execution of processes and for analysis of data for troubleshooting and improvement. The Sr. Manager, Automation will set the strategic direction and provide technical leadership for the design and development of automation and control systems, including programs and staffing, engineering systems and commissioning and qualification. Duties will also include tracking financial success, providing fit-for-purpose automation systems and planning for upkeep and system maintenance. All responsibilities will include ensuring solutions and systems are in compliance with company and regulatory quality requirements.


Short term goals/plans will include the initiation of Data Integrity program functionality such as system administration and audit trail review integrated into our baseline programs and procedures. This will include the identification of key resources. In addition to this, the Sr. Manager, Automation will need to apply immediate focus on new facility (R3) being qualified.

Long term goals/plans will include the review of the existing automation programs for compliance and reliability and to remediate accordingly.

Other responsibilities include:

+ Supervise employees who are engaged in supporting the automation systems for production. In addition, supporting the utility systems, both qualified and non-qualified.

+ Develop overall automation and controls strategy for the Rocky Mount site, including short and long term plans.

+ Develop annual operating budget for the site process automation teams, including manpower and capital plans for the Rocky Mount site. Responsible for financial and operational results in area of responsibility.

+ Direct and plan the development of objectives, long range plans, standards of service and performance of the process automation team members. Direct the automation team members for a multi-faceted, highly complex, multi-shift manufacturing operation in compliance to company and corporate policies.

+ Achieve the implementation and standardization of automation systems and procedures for the site. Oversee the planning, estimating and scheduling required for automation systems to be implemented. Ensure that automation activities are handled in accordance with current regulations governing safety, environmental protection, energy conservation, quality and other regulatory requirements.

+ Provide leadership in effective communications, coaching, training and development of department colleagues consistent with Pfizer values, leader behaviors and practices. Maintain technical skills in the latest techniques for process automation and technology as applied to the pharmaceutical industry.

+ Ensure that proven practices are defined and understood by site and other resources which have the responsibility to implement automation systems.


+ BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline required. BS in Engineering discipline strongly preferred.

+ 10+ years related experience required. Master's degree with 7 years of related experience may be considered.

+ Minimum of 3 years of experience interfacing with corporate and governmental regulatory programs, such as FDA compliance, required.

+ Ideal candidate will have knowledge of programming, which may include Distributed Control Sytesm (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Vision systems (Systech and Cognex). Robotic controls a plus.

+ Demonstrated leadership, management of colleagues and demonstrated technical capabilities. Successful track record at leadership and task accomplishments.

+ Demonstrated commitment to values-based leadership achieving objectives in a manner that is supportive of the Pfizer values and leader behaviors.

+ Ability to think strategically, develop long-range plans and apply appropriate resources to accomplish projects and goals on schedule. Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of the Pfizer organization and regulatory bodies.
