The Senior Manager - BSL3 Operations leads the administrative and management support of BSL/ABSL-3 laboratories in the Pearl River. Working alongside Comparative Medicine Program counterpart, the Senior Manager oversees the establishment and implementation of bio-safety, security, and common laboratory standard operating procedures and processes in Pfizer Pearl River Bio-safety Level 3 laboratories including use of Select list agents. The incumbent ensures that proper budgetary, operational, and regulatory compliance needs are met in the BSL/ABSL-3 laboratories and establishes any necessary scheduling and usage of laboratory resources. The incumbent acts as liaison with the Pfizer Environmental Health & Safety, Leadership, Principal Investigators (PI), BSL3 laboratory and support staff/vendors. The Senior Manager works closely with Pfizer Global Workplace Solutions Facilities Management team regarding facility engineering controls required for proper function of high containment laboratory. The Senior Manager will interface with regulatory agencies (such as US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and local governments as necessary.


+ The Senior Manager is responsible for safe day-to-day operation of BSL3/ABSL3 Facilities. This includes establishing and maintaining Facility Specific Safety & Biosecurity Manuals, providing documented, periodic safety and operations training as needed including emergency drills and table-top exercises involving BSL3 and/or ABSL3 personnel.

+ Provide operations and safety management for laboratory staff. Assist PI s with scientific management of staff as needed. Provide operations and safety training for new staff and PI s. Provide PI s and Laboratory staff support for purchase of laboratory supplies and equipment specific to facility and research protocol.

+ Establishes and maintains Facility Specific Safety & Biosecurity Manuals and any relevant SOPs. Working with appropriate Quality & Compliance organizations, ensure all individuals complete training on quality process SOPs and GLP/GCLP, all equipment is maintained in compliance with SOPs including Change Control, preventative maintenance, environmental monitoring, and process for adding and removing equipment from the facilities.

+ Ensure that PIs establish and maintain Laboratory Specific Safety Manual for their research within BSL3/ABSL3 facilities. All laboratory procedures run in the BSL3 laboratories must be included in this manual.

+ Supervise PI s compliance with BSL3 infectious agent and select agent inventory requirements.

+ Acts as a liaison on regulatory committees (IACUC, IBC, Research Safety Committee).

+ Provide Lab Ops and Leadership with requested information and updates as needed.

+ Participate in Laboratory Managers support processes.

+ Must be able to work in BSL3 environment.


+ 9+ year's with Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology required.

+ Five plus years of experience in BSL-3/Containment laboratory environment.

+ Three years experience in laboratory management, including personnel, budget and regulatory committee protocol management.

+ Must be able to pass security clearance required for working with select agents.

+ Working knowledge of HVAC mechanical and control systems (preferred Honeywell)


+ MS preferred.

+ Experience in Containment Laboratory management preferred.

+ Expertise in a Containment Facility design and operations

+ Familiarity with BMBL 5th Edition

+ Familiarity with ANSI Z9.14 Standard

+ Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Work, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

+ Aptitude to learn computer based Core management/invoicing systems (iLab, VELOS, LAMBS)
