IBM is building the worlds most open cloud platform. Were seeking product managers with experience building up cloud software marketplaces and platforms. You want to do more for customers, but your impact has been hampered by business strategies focused on lock-in. You want to compete on trust rather than lock-in. You want to give customers more control to find and use what works best for them, and deploy anywhere, on any vendors platform, all with one open-source tool-set.

You have a track record of success building ecosystems in licensed or -as-a-service software. Your experience spans areas such as:
1. enabling customers to discover the best software for their needs and gain confidence in its quality;
2. building mutually beneficial partnerships with vendors and managed service providers;
3. simplifying licensing, terms, payment, billing, and cost optimization; and
4. enabling customers with reference architectures, migration, deployment, and management.

You have a history of creating mutual wins between vendors and customers, and now you want to do so on a 100% open platform, unlocking a portable software economy.

Your Role and Responsibilities
As a product manager, you will lead a cross-functional product team building the digital marketplace that makes it easy to bring workloads to any cloud. Were creating the best user experience for developers, helping them get things done fasteven in enterprise situations with complex IT compliance needs. To do that, were also making sure IT departments, vendors, partners and sellers all have a great experience. You will meet people and build relationships everywhere, because IBM has the worlds largest enterprise customer base.

You have a blend of Business, Technical, and User Experience skills, and you collaborate effectively to deliver results and show impact. Your past work shows mastery of many of the following:

Business Skills
  • Lead the definition, build, and growth of a new product
  • Gather market feedback from customer interviews, usage data, analysts, market reports and trends
  • Identify unmet customer needs by aggregating feedback, using methods such as Jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) and Outcome Driven Innovation (ODI)
  • Define customers desired outcomes and associated metrics, and manage to those
  • Choose roadmap priorities according to aggregate needs, with defensible reasoning that aligns stakeholders and energizes design and engineering teams.
  • Communicate priorities out to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead a cross-functional team of designers and engineers following agile principles, to drive progress through effective, regular communication and accountability.
  • Maximize quality, within schedule, by proactively resolving issues and adjusting scope
  • Be the face of the product working directly with clients, to ensure client success

Technical Skills
  • Deeply familiar with at least one cloud platform stack, as evidenced by client success, past projects, certifications, etc.
  • Past experience building products as a software engineer, UX designer, etc.
  • Understand the needs and desires of developers and system operators
  • Some exposure to corporate processes Procurement, Security, Compliance
  • Track record of learning new tech to stay current with trends

User Experience Skills
  • Examine problems from the customer/user point of view, and make tradeoffs in the customers favor
  • Curious about how users really use your products that drives you to observe users, listen to and read feedback, etc.
  • Build service blueprints, wireframe flows, etc.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
The following professional and technical background is required:
  • Minimum of 5 years (preferably 10+ years) of experience leading product teams in the software industry
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a product roadmap and delivery from an aggregate understanding of market needs
  • Self-motivated decision maker, frequently taking initiative and recognizing opportunities
  • Evidence of strong communication and listening skills, especially with clients and influencers
  • Deep familiarity with at least one cloud platform stack
  • Ability to plan and conduct live demos, in detail, to any size audience

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

The following technical and professional expertise is preferred and will greatly enhance your success on the team:
  • Experience in data analytics
  • Knowledge of or past experience in UX design and Design Thinking principles
  • Experience in client enablement, consulting, or customer support
  • Knowledge of marketplace ecosystems on major cloud providers including IBM Cloud
