Senior Scientist, Assay Development and High Throughput Screening

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to become part of a team focusing on assay development and high throughput screening for the generation and identification of novel biotherapeutics. The individual will participate in efforts to develop and integrate sensitive biochemical, cell-based, and functional assays (including but not limited to reporter gene, downstream signaling, internalization, proliferation, & apoptosis etc.) to address unmet HTS needs. Qualified candidates will develop and qualify screening assays through proper DoE, automation robotics, and relevant screening platforms. In this position, successful candidate will work within a matrix, collaborative, fast-paced, team environment across a diverse biotherapeutic portfolio at Pfizer.


+ Develop target relevant biochemical and cell-based assays; Optimize, validate, and troubleshoot screening assay robustness, sensitivity, reproducibility; Convert assays into HT screening format

+ Perform HT screens and hit identification

+ Work closely with external vendors with regard to new technologies and instrumentation

+ Critically analyze experimental data and present results

+ Generate detail assay SOPs

+ Participate in the integration and establishment of high-throughput robots, liquid handlers, screening platforms and data capture systems

+ Ensure all tasks and responsibilities are performed according to industry-leading scientific and ethical standards and accurately documented in lab electronic notebook system


+ PhD in pharmacology, cell biology, biochemistry or related field with 2+ years of industry research experience with the ability to succeed in a collaborative, matrix environment

+ Strong proven background in assay screening for all major target classes (RTKs, GPCRs, Enzymes, transporters, ion channels, etc.)

+ Expert level knowledge of industry leading assay development methodologies, experience with HTS, integrated automation, and liquid handling platforms

+ A highly motivated, self-directed scientist with the demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize work and manage a number of projects

+ Proven experience with standard in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays (e.g. reporter gene, protein translocation, internalization, HTRF, ELISA, FLIPR, etc.), including assay transfer, execution and troubleshooting

+ Exceptional communication skills


+ Knowledge and experience in phage display, yeast display, or hybridoma screening work flow

+ Experience in HCS & HT flow cytometry

+ Expertise in High Throughput Screening (HTS) platforms

+ Expertise in Integrated automation platforms
