The Immunopharmacology group within the Pfizer Inflammation and Immunology Research Unit is seeking a Senior Scientist level candidate to develop the next generation of disease-modifying therapeutics for autoimmune and fibrotic indications such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Specifically, the candidate will develop robust biochemical and cell-based assays with the goal of identifying and validating novel inhibitors of inflammatory pathways and diseases.


+ Design, optimize and execute innovative and complex screening assays to support project teams using plate-based and High Content Screening platforms

+ Efficiently deliver biochemical and cell-based assay data to inform effective decision making

+ Lead focused group efforts to understand the biology, mechanism of action and target identification of lead matter

+ Manage an initiative to expand cell-based automation solutions in the Research Unit

+ Collaborate closely with supervisor and members of the Research Unit and of multi-disciplinary research project teams to advance pipeline projects.

+ Accurately and efficiently interpret large data sets and clearly present the results to colleagues across multiple teams

+ Work within interdisciplinary project teams as a key biologist to coordinate and perform experimental work for the development of novel therapeutics

+ Communicate progress updates at Team, Group and/or Department meetings


+ MS degree in biology, immunology or a related discipline with 7+ years of experience

+ Minimum of 5 years of assay development experience preferred

+ Strong background in mammalian cell culture techniques

+ Experience with automated liquid handling platforms

+ Experience with fluorescence and chemi-luminesence assays, High Content Screening, plate readers and associated lab instrumentation

+ Experience with western blotting techniques

+ Ability to independently trouble-shoot experiments and persist in assay optimization. Must be able to thrive and deliver quality results on goals in a fast-paced, dynamic, innovative and highly multi-tasking, matrix environment.

+ Must work well as a member of teams in an inclusive manner.

+ Excellent communication and presentation skills. Experience with the isolation and assay of primary human leukocytes, monocyte, neutrophils and/or T-cells.
