**ROLE SUMMARY**

The Cancer Immunology Discovery (CID) group in La Jolla, CA is dedicated to developing therapeutics that redirect the immune system against cancer. CID researchers apply the latest scientific knowledge and approaches to discover truly innovative Immuno-Oncology therapeutics.

We are seeking a qualified candidate to join us at a Senior Scientist level within the Leukocyte Signaling CID group. Responsibilities include leveraging cell biologic tools to dissect mechanisms-of-action of new therapeutics, identify new targets and drug combinations, and develop biomarkers and drug screening assays. Expertise in cell biology, signaling, and biochemistry is vital for this position. Highly-qualified candidates will have a developed interest in transcriptomics/RNAseq, phospho-proteomics, and cellular immunology.

The successful candidate will work closely with individuals in drug design and immune-oncology groups to innovate and develop the next-generation immunotherapies.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**



+ Carry out hands-on lab work to apply cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry techniques to investigate the effects of therapeutics on the immune system.

+ Prepare samples for transcriptomic, proteomic, and epigenetic studies, and lead efforts to analyze and confirm findings.

+ Design, assess, and troubleshoot cell-based assays with primary immune cells and immortalized cell lines.

+ Collaborate with protein engineers, chemists, and immunologists to identify novel therapeutics.

+ Participate and present in internal and external collaboration meetings as well as at site and cross-site meetings.

+ Communicate experimental findings accurately and concisely in both oral and written formats.

+ Help to build a culture that embraces scientific excellence and continuous learning.



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ PhD in Biology/Immunology/Biochemistry/Cell Biology, or related discipline

+ Expertise in primary and immortalized cell culture, cell-based assays, FACS, western blotting, and interrogating signaling pathways.

+ Ability to independently design, plan, and execute and interpret experiments

+ Experience with data analysis and presentation software

+ Familiarity with antibody and small-molecule discovery approaches.

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ The individual should be scientifically creative and driven by a willingness to embrace innovation within drug discovery, and an eagerness to challenge and meet timelines

+ The ability to work closely with other group members within teams is essential



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Postdoctoral or industry R&D experience

+ Strong track record of scientific accomplishments demonstrated through publications in highly-impact journals and/or intellectual property generation.

+ Track record of demonstrating analytical skills and unique problem-solving skills

+ Prior experience in working with omics approaches including RNAseq, ATAC-seq and/or phospho-proteomics.
