Senior Scientist, Validation & Phenotyping

Pfizer's in vivo functional genomics unit is focused on rapid generation of transgenic mouse models for validation of new drug targets, mechanistic understanding of disease pathology and preclinical testing. The unit applies the latest technical developments in gene editing and transgenic technology to create First-In-Class genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs).

The position will independently perform in vitro and in vivo validation of new models generated in-house and lead collaborative efforts for early phenotyping to facilitate target validation.


+ Develop and execute a strategy for early phenotyping utilizing resources available across the Pfizer sites in collaboration with Comparative Medicine and research units

+ Assimilate new analysis methods from different sources to generate high quality data

+ Analyze and present early phenotyping data to collaborators for fast decision making

+ Perform genome editing in zygotes and cultured cells to validate model design

+ Identify and characterize animals with a desired editing via genotyping and expression analyses

Test and implement the latest gene editing technologies for creation of animal models



+ Master's degree with >7 years of experience or Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology or related field

+ Hands-on experience with in vivo models of human diseases

+ Strong understanding of mouse genetics and practical steps involved in GEMM creation

+ Direct experience with routine molecular biology techniques and advanced gene expression analyses such as ddPCR and NGS

+ Experience in pathobiology, histology and imaging

+ Experience in cell engineering

+ Ability to engage closely in multiple projects and to track record of timely execution

+ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to maintain productive and congenial collaborations in a fast-paced environment

+ Post-doctoral experience or equivalent

+ Expertise in dissecting and analyzing diverse mouse tissues

+ Experience in mouse embryonic stem cell culture and gene targeting

+ Experience in CRISPR gene editing technologies
