**ROLE SUMMARY**

The Viral Vaccines group is seeking an experienced protein biochemist, biophysicist, and structural biologist to advance a portfolio of vaccines against viral targets such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, and cytomegalovirus. The successful applicant will have a key role in optimizing vaccine antigens and developing assays for essential quality attributes of these antigens. The ideal applicant will have advanced understanding of protein engineering, protein purification, biophysical assays, and structure determination. Additional knowledge of structural virology, nucleic acid biochemistry, lipid biochemistry, and vaccine development is highly desirable. The incumbent should possess a strong scientific curiosity and rigor and be adaptable to take on the group's scientific challenges as they arise. The incumbent will work closely with the CSO, project teams, supporting lines, team members, and external collaborators to drive the design and execution of experiments, and take a "hands on" role in laboratory activities. The incumbent will contribute to strategic directions for the group. The incumbent will be part of a dynamic team and should possess a strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.



**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**

Act as the Viral Vaccines group's subject matter expert in protein biochemistry, biophysics, and structural biology, remaining current in the scientific literature and state of the art techniques, maintaining expertise in the biochemistry of viral vaccine antigens. Design, conduct, document, interpret, and communicate experiments in this core area of expertise with a goal of advancing viral vaccine development, demonstrating high standards of scientific rigor, including compliant documentation and, when necessary, adherence to formal quality standards. Mentor junior scientists' activities and provide technical guidance when necessary, potentially managing one or more junior scientists Collaborate extensively with those from other scientific disciplines from within the group, from other subdivisions of viral vaccines, from other divisions of Pfizer, and potentially from external partners. Take on additional scientific challenges as necessary to advance the group's goals, including those in virology, nucleic acid biochemistry, lipid biochemistry, and assay development.



**QUALIFICATIONS**



+ A Ph.D. and at least 3 years of academic, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology postdoctoral experience is necessary.

+ Technical competency in protein biochemistry, protein biophysics, and structural biology concepts and techniques is essential.

+ Experience in antigen design, nucleic acid biochemistry, lipid biochemistry, and virology is desirable. Should have a working familiarity with structural modeling and rendering software.

+ Ability to write clearly and concisely.
