Unit Description

Sodexo is seeing a Sodexo Intern for our Future Leaders-In-Training Program at Kansas State University Concessions in Manhattan, KS. These positions will specifically have a Marketing, Catering and Finance Focus. The purpose of the Student Manager Program is to  develop qualified managers from among our student employees. It is designed to identify and train potential new hires who will have skill sets and Sodexo awareness that are above that of the average entry-level manager.

*Candidates must be a current student at Kansas State University*


BASIC FUNCTION Responsible for:

  • Assisting the management team as directed and according to unit needs
  • Hiring, training, evaluating and supervision of frontline employees
  • Controlling labor costs
  • Ensuring compliance with Sodexo and account operating standards and procedures
  • Completing skills and SodexoGO! Training


PRINCIPLE DUTIES Responsible for:

Supervising frontline employees, including but not limited to:

  • Dress code
  • Performance and public relations
  • Fill staffing tables and all open shifts
  • Maintain high standards in food presentation and presentation areas
  • Being a liaison between customer and management
  • Relaying information of various natures to the appropriate management team
  • Managing and monitoring staffing and labor
  • Ensuring proper substitution procedures are in place and followed
  • Assisting in management of all service items to assure adequate quantities are available to ourcustomers throughout the meal times
  • Keeping production staff informed of 15-minute counts throughout the meal
  • Maintaining HACCP procedures throughout the meal
  • Monitoring and maintaining sanitation and housekeeping procedures from meal to meal
  • Management of safety procedures, including documenting and reporting all incidents AND accidents
  • Assisting management in all phases of operation including resident dining, retail and catering asneeded
  • Understanding the basic operation of equipment and training employees in its use
  • Understanding all cash handling procedures
  • Planning, organizing, and executing ongoing student employee training sessions
  • Assisting in unit opening and closedown periods, including set-up and clean up

Catering Focus:

  • Identify customer needs and expectations
  • Ensure that Sodexo and customer goals are aligned and met
  • Educate and develop rapport with clients and promote partnerships
  • Promote a customer/client centered culture that strives to exceed customer and client needs
  • Coordinate all unit catering initiatives to drive sales growth and track results
  • Maintain and improve service level resulting in increased customer satisfaction
  • Ensure all HAACP standards are followed 
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and quick responsiveness to client and customer requests

Marketing Focus:

We are looking for candidates who can:

  • Help to increase the sales volume of our VMPs (Voluntary Meal Plans) through marketing efforts Our successful candidate will execute Sodexo marketing programs and plans as well as the \"chops\" to create campus-specific \"in-house\" marketing programs
  • Partner with our family of vendors and the community in order to help create special event opportunities for Sodexo including hiring events
  • Manage Social Media: Our successful candidate is a social media \"guru\" who can increase Sodexo's social media footprint via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn and the NextDoor app

Finance Focus:

We are looking for candidates who can:

  • Provide financial and analytical support for campus sales, retail operations and on-campus finance to assist in financial decision-making process regarding on-campus new business

  • Prepare the costing of on-campus business to ensure that it reflects operating assumptions that are consistent with the business conditions of the specific site and general operating history of the Campus (primary focus is on multi-service or multi-site dining surveys)

  • Provide review of site and single survey costings prepared by the Unit Controller

  • Act as a business partner to on-campus Sales, Finance and Operations

  • Administer data collection activities for the site survey

  • Assist in preparation of post audit assessments to assess operating performance

  • Can communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators

  • Has the ability to make sound decisions during normal and stressful situations and follow up to ensure continuity

  • Has the ability to assume responsibility of all items on their job description

  • Demonstrates strong supervisory and management skills

  • Ideally is enrolled in a Business Management or Hospitality type course of study

  • Past experience in food service is also desirable

  • Has a desire to start a career with Sodexo upon graduation, and is willing to relocate and is flexible regarding their geography

  • Is endorsed by leadership as the type of person they would desire to have working in their district

  • Has the knowledge, skills and abilities consistent with the core competencies of Sodexo

Qualifications & Requirements
