Your Role and Responsibilities
The Solution IT Architect (SIA) role, provides an exciting and unique opportunity to work with IBMs ecosystem of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), helping them understand IBMs software portfolio and how they are able to leverage elements of this in their own solutions. This role is part of IBMs Ecosystem Advocacy Group.


Working alongside Technical Consultants a successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical relationship with a number of ISVs, for building a technology integration plan, creating awareness and driving the adoption and enablement of IBM technologies within ISV solution offerings, hence enabling the sale of IBM technology through the subsequent marketing and sale of those solutions.

The focus of the role will be to promote IBMs cloud and cognitive/AI (Watson) technologies, enabling Partners to implement and leverage these capabilities from within their solutions.


In this role a successful candidates responsibilities will include;

Together with the IBM Business Development Representative/Seller recruit new ISVs onto IBM technologies.
Manage the technical relationship with ISVs.

o Develop working relationships with ISV executives/senior managers (eg CTO, Product Offering Management etc ) and functional technical leaders.
o Educate ISVs on IBM technologies, support capabilities and programs.
o Understand the ISVs solution architecture, solution function and capabilities, offering strategy/roadmap and business model.
o Work, where appropriate, with the ISV to help support their technical response to business opportunities.

Gain commitment by the ISV to integrate IBM technologies.

o Work directly with the ISV to influence and assist in technology decisions and manage the IBM technology enablement plans.
o Appraise ISVs on IBM's Technical Strategy and the Growth Initiatives that will add value to their solutions.
o Identify cross IBM technology enablement, integration and optimization opportunities.
o Support the creation of Proof of Concepts (PoC), Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) & technology evaluations in order to gain commitment from the ISV to IBM technology.
o Function as the technical lead for account planning purposes.
o Run architecture design workshops.

Go to Market

o Develop a close working relationship with IBM Business Development colleagues in order to ensure that the appropriate commercial agreements are in place and are aligned to the technologies embedded by the ISV.
o Maintain up to date knowledge of the business opportunities with ISVs that have come about through the technical engagement activity.

Required Professional & Technical Expertise:


  • Experience in working in pre-sales/architect (or similar) technical role.
  • Account and relationship management skills.
  • Broad understanding of software technologies including Cloud and Cognitive/AI.
  • Experience in client facing role, or working with software vendors or cloud providers.
  • Competent speaker/presenter to both small and large audiences.
  • Creation and articulation of value propositions.

Preferred Professional & Technical Expertise:

  • Familiarity with enterprise container technology including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of Microservices architecture concepts.
  • Knowledge of web application development including technologies such as nodeJS, Java, HTML, REST would be beneficial but not essential.
