The Safety Pharmacology Animal Research Center (SPARC) is currently seeking an in vivo technical expert and process motivated teammate to join Amgen. This dynamic team is responsible for leading all aspects of care in a research colony, providing strong scientific and technical support to multiple therapeutic areas for in vivo studies and providing technical training.

Responsibilities:
  • Performing veterinary health care and monitoring within a research vivarium (occasionally during weekends on rotational basis)
  • Partnering with the team to provide technical skills training for research staff and investigators
  • Providing a high proficient level of in vivo technical support to all therapeutic discovery research areas for various projects or programs
  • Collaborating with Veterinarians, surgeon(s) and investigators to design and refine models
  • Creating and implementing policies/procedures in support of in vivo scientific research
  • Supporting animal welfare and compliance needs of Amgen
  • Supporting animal ordering on as needed basis
  • Providing support for vendor management and audit compliance of external business partners
  • Proactively seeking continuous improvement and supporting 3Rs


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a scientific field
  • 4+ years working in a research setting
  • RVT or LVT certification
  • Certified by AALAS at the LATG level
  • Previous experience training in a technical training program
  • Experience leading and performing in-life research studies in various species
  • Strong technical skill set to support research studies for various therapeutic areas (cardiovascular, oncology, inflammation research)
  • Experience leading, performing and providing technical training
  • Proficient in basic bio-methodology techniques, anesthesia and physiological monitoring, compound dosing, and sample collection
  • Skilled in computerized data acquisition, post-acquisition processing and data analysis using analytical & graphic software, and data summarization
  • Organize information (data, results) and communicate to supervisor or peers
  • Experience managing veterinary health care in a vivarium, including healthcare management of specialized disease models
  • Adaptability/flexibility to effectively work in an environment with changing priorities and urgency for project completion
  • Highly self-motivated, driven to excel, ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities and projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and oral) and the ability to function and collaborate successfully in a matrixed team environment
