Position Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
The Senior Manager of Software Engineering drives the rapid delivery of innovative solutions and maintains our world-class Autobahn e-commerce platform.  The Senior Manager of Software Engineering is a proven agile leader and software engineer with the ability to recruit, retain and coach self-organizing development teams that adapt to change and continuously improve to reach extremely high levels of productivity. The Senior Manager of Software Engineering remains hands-on with code and architecture to lead the team by example and to ensure engineering excellence.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
15%-Attracts, retains, and develops top talent to build a world class Software Engineering Team
15%-Acts as an agile coach. Insures teams are continuously improving and radiating information appropriately
10%- Conducts annual and mid-year reviews by reviewing individual development plans and team feedback
10%- Contributes to and makes recommendations for strategic plans in support of key objectives in a timely and fiscally responsible manner. Works closely with business leaders to help them develop strategic plans that require engineering support.
10%- Works closely with engineering leadership to drive strategic improvement of the overall technology platform 
10%- Supports and nurtures strategic vendor relationships
10%- Provides architectural and design oversight for development teams. Works hands-on with teams to solve difficult architectural challenges and to drive architectural decisions when conflicts arise
10%- Helps teams find creative ways to solve problems and to meet tight deadlines
10%- Collaborates and pairs with product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions

NATURE AND SCOPE

This position reports to Director of Technology
This position has 16 Direct Reports

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment:
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.

Years of Relevant Work Experience:
5 years

Physical Requirements:

Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with the architecture of e-commerce solutions at Blinds.com and/or The Home Depot is a plus
Experience with other server-side stacks (Node.js, Python, Java, PHP etc.) a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
 
Experience leading agile development organizations with multiple teams involved in new product development. Has a strong understanding of agile principles and practices.
Experience building and maintaining relationships with technology teams outside the manager’s direct sphere of control to successfully coordinate efforts to deliver complex enterprise solutions
Very broad and deep full-stack application development skills. Has experience as an application or enterprise architect preferably in a .NET environment. Works hands-on with code at least part of the time.
Drives vision and purpose. Paints a compelling picture of the vision and strategy to motivate others to act.
Develops engineering leaders. Helps others grow and thrive. Attracts top talent.
Has strong business insight. Applies knowledge of the business and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals.

Is comfortable managing ambiguity. Operates effectively even when things are not certain, or the way forward is not clear. Can handle shifting priorities. Balances the needs of multiple stakeholders.
Good oral and written communication skills. Can summarize complex technical information for non-technical audiences to influence decision making.
