Systems Engineer

El Segundo, CA 90245
AT&T Mobility & Entertainment is looking for a forward-thinking, innovative and unusually talented systems engineer to join us in our El Segundo, CA offices. This position will work in an agile organization and is highly technical; working directly with development and service owners to ensure reliability and sustainability of the platform that supports AT&T TV, AT&Ts next generation linear TV product. Our system engineering teams work on larger cross-functional teams to engineer solutions for scale and use data-driven decision making to refine, and launch/deploy solutions that improve our customers experiences. This platform includes many teams supporting the services, data processing, video processing, and advertising flows that makes the whole system work. This position will participate in strategic projects that span multiple domains (application design, compute, storage, network, services) with the goal of improving operational efficiencies and creating design solutions. The candidate will be working on a high-visibility, fast paced, work hard/play hard team to work with other cross-functional business teams to implement high quality solutions and deliver value to our customers.


The successful candidate will be able to:

Implement systems to meet security, performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability requirements.

Create architecture, designs, and documentation that will lead to consistent reliability, scalability, security, and performance of the system as a whole.

Participate in design discussions about new features and approaches to implementing new services and collaborate cross-functionally to analyze, engineer, and implement end-to-end solutions.

Interact effectively with cross-functional teams within Operations, Engineering, Development, etc. to accomplish shared projects, and work with other team members as active participants of the production support systems.

Coach and guide cross-functional teams through technical tasks and work with product managers to understand feature requirements.

Implement performance analysis, proactive troubleshooting, continual improvement, and capacity planning.

Review environments and execute initiatives to reduce failures, defects, and improve overall performance and reliability.


Qualifications:


Bachelors degree, or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline

Familiarity with software languages like JavaScript, Java, C++, Python, Perl, Shell

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including a qualitative and quantitative skill set, analyzing complex issues and designing appropriate solutions

Ability to manage heavy workload, accommodate change and adapt accordingly. Experience delivering results in a fast moving, challenging environment.

Excellent communication skills, including ability to tailor communication to audience to achieve desired results.


Preferred:

Familiarity with frameworks like Spring Boot, React Native

Familiarity with AWS offerings, including infrastructure elements like EC2, S3, NLB/ALB, serverless offerings like Lambda, as well as SaaS offerings such as RDS, MSK, EKS

Familiarity with automation scripting tools like Ansible, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation

Experience in Agile or Scrum methodologies

Experience in one or more areas of infrastructure (Networking, Compute, Storage, etc.)

Knowledge of Linux and enterprise server hardware, including Cloud solutions (installation, configuration)

Knowledge of TCP/IP and basic networking concepts (Subnets, VLANs, Jumbo Frames, LACP, NIC Teaming, Unicast/Broadcast/Multicast, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, SSH, etc.)
