The candidate chosen for this position will perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, which require independent judgment and initiative. The procedures include but are not limited to Abdominal, OB/GYN, Small Parts, Arterial and Venus Vascular exams, Pediatric and Adult Echocardiograms, and Guidance procedures. Maintains ultrasound equipment. Call is required.    

Job Requirements

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements (if applicable):

• Registered by the ARDMS in Vascular preferred; other registries a plus/benefit.

• Must obtain registry from ARDMS or equivalent with Vascular certification within one year of employment and maintain this registry/certification annually. 

• Additional registry in cardiac and/or OB/GYN, Abdominal/general preferred.   

• BLS required within six months of employment.

• Previous ultrasound experience required. 

• Must successfully complete the pre-employment assessment.

• Typing and basic computer skills required.

 

 

Job Functions

1.

Assists in patient transport.

2.

Proficiently utilizes the Radnet. Scheduling, Powerchart modules of Cerner for patient information entry/review.

3.

Able to assist in burning CD's for patient data copying.

4.

Able to proficiently send image and documentation as needed for off-site review to imaging review service, Knows how to troubleshoot transmission problems when they arise.

5.

Perform abdominal, OB-GYN, neuro, vascular, breast, and other exams as required.

6.

Demonstrate expertise in preparation and assistance of special procedures (i.e. biopsies, amniocentesis, etc.)

7.

Proficient in the use of ultrasound and interventional exams. Including assisting physician at bedside, and insuring sterile technique/sterile field maintenance.

8.

Maintain patient flow with minimal patient waiting time, and maximum resource efficiency.

9.

Accurately identify normal or pathological processes and distinguish them from artifacts.

10.

Assure patient requisition is accurate and all information in Cerner is completed immediately upon exam completion.

11.

Provide physicians with accurate patient history and technical impressions.

12.

Document and record information required on images and requisitions. This includes procedural measurement pages.

13.

Share knowledge with medical staff, nursing staff, physician office staff, and the general public to promote ultrasound service.

14.

Work with management to effectively promote ultrasound and new technology.

15.

Identify learning needs and implement to active practice.

16.

Operate all equipment with complete knowledge and ability to obtain optimum quality images.

17.

Recognize when equipment is functioning and calibrated correctly.

18.

Reports equipment failure and when maintenance/service is needed.

19.

Maintain equipment in a clean manner and in peak operating condition.

20.

Maintain probes in peak condition recognizing when service or upgrades are necessary. This includes sterilization and maintenance of probes.

21.

Maintains and adheres to all hospital criteria that pertain to patient confidentiality (i.e. reports, charts, images, PACS Patient image folder, orders, Cerner, procedure requisitions).

22.

Performs and maintains QC records on all probe disinfecting/infection control (Trophon, TD-100 etc.)

23.

Performs other duties as required and assigned.
