**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**

Under minimal supervision and working within defined operation parameters, conducts bulk organic synthesis operations. Effectively sets up and contributes to the safe processing equipment design for complex synthesis operations and ensures that proper personal protective equipment is worn. Ensures that all safety policies, standard operating procedures and cGMP regulations are understood and followed.



Must be proficient in the following operations: chemical powder / liquid handling subdivisions, vessel inerting, atmospheric and vacuum distillations, separations, pH adjustments, hydrogenation reactions, cryogenic reactions, product filtration, solids drying, milling and packaging.



Must have good computer skills and the ability to learn or operate the following programs: Word, Excel, and DeltaV digital control systems. Participate in the validation, qualification and commissioning requirements for equipment used in cGMP operations. Must be knowledgeable and understand all complex utility systems.



Must be mechanically inclined and able to learn quickly, have good problem solving, written and verbal communication skills, and is well organized. Ability to write and understand standard operating procedures as well as training other technicians on new equipment and upgrades. Assists others with problem solving and troubleshooting with the ability to determine and provide solutions for problems. Work closely with Process Supervisors to provide technical and scientific input into process development and process improvement efforts associated with API manufacture. Feeds back information and observations on processing in real time to the supervisor and/or project team to aid development and ensure clear process performance understanding.



Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals required. Participates in Process Operating Note reviews, department meetings and safety meetings as required. Commitment to continually improving skills through participation in educational opportunities whether offered as on the job, within or outside the facility, to increase knowledge of work related issues.



Works a flexible schedule to meet the department needs in the facility when required. In the absence of the Shift team leader, ability to organize the work load, assigns process coverage to ensure progress of the portfolio.



**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**



+ Bachelor's Degree with 5+ years of experience, Associate's Degree with 7+ years of experience or HS Diploma with 10+ years of experience in relevant scientific discipline (Chemistry, Biology, Engineering) with successful experience as a chemical operator / technician with organic synthetic processes which includes handling of highly hazardous, reactive and flammable materials.

+ Proven mechanical capabilities, excellent safety record and excellent references will be required.



**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**



+ In addition, bulk pharmaceutical production experience, cGMP training, organic chemistry knowledgeable and computer skills are desirable.



**PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS**



+ Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs, be amenable to wearing personal protective equipment and working with hazardous materials.



**NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS**



+ Candidate must be able and willing to work on a rotating shift schedule (day shift and afternoon shift) as assigned.
