Position Summary

Revance Therapeutics, Inc. (Revance) is a biotechnology company pursuing aesthetic and therapeutic advances to help patients attain their greatest health and well-being potential.

Reporting to the Director, Medical Science Liaisons (MSL Director), the Virtual Medical Science Liaison (vMSL) is a field-based Medical Affairs professional that will serve as an external scientific representative of Revance to Healthcare Professionals. The vMSL position is a blended role that will support Revance Medical Information and Field Medical capabilities. The vMSL will provide responses to unsolicited requests for medical information on an ad hoc basis and in compliance with corporate policies and procedures and US healthcare laws and regulations. They will collaborate with peer(s) across the country to ensure rapid fulfillment of these requests during all business hours. The vMSL will contribute to the development of Medical Affairs materials, including standard response letters, slide decks, publications, and internal communications. The vMSL will be assigned a small, local territory in which he/she will be responsible for establishing professional relationships with KOLs and conducting unbiased scientific interactions related to Revance disease states and scientific topics of interest, as well as company products.

The successful candidate will exhibit outstanding professional communication skills along with a high degree of scientific and industry expertise. He/She will have at least 2 years of medical information experience and will demonstrate a high degree of familiarity with regulatory guidelines and industry standards related to medical information and scientific engagement.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Ability to work with other Revance personnel to provide rapid responses to unsolicited requests for medical information during all business hours in compliance with corporate policies and procedures and US healthcare laws and regulations
  • Contribute to the development of standard response documents (standard response letters, frequently asked questions, etc.) and Medical Science Liaison tools
  • Develop customized response letters to address medical information requests escalated from Medical Information
  • Contribute to the development of medical affairs materials, such as slide decks, publications, internal communications, etc.
  • Foster productive professional relationships and partnerships with Revance KOLs in the areas of medical education and research in small, local geographic territory
  • Conduct effective and compliant interactions with external stakeholders on disease state, company products (including responses to unsolicited, off-label questions), and development programs on an ad hoc basis
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time to conduct field-based activities
  • Identify and communicate medical/scientific insights and trends that are relevant to Company and its stakeholders (e.g., the competitive landscape, unmet needs of investigators, researchers, physicians)
  • Support field medical team in execution of aligned field strategy
  • Attend key medical congresses and collect, analyze, and summarize the impact of relevant data and competitive information
  • Maintain thorough and up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging therapies in the aesthetic space, including clinical information and competitive product information, in order to confidently speak with internal and external partners
  • Effectively deliver medical and scientific presentations to broad audiences, including physicians, nurses, and other practice staff as needed to support Field Medical team
  • Identify and communicate opportunities to partner with KOLs on disease state and/or therapeutic area initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures as well as U.S. healthcare laws and regulation
  • Lead/contribute to special team projects as necessary
  • Complete other activities as deemed necessary by Medical Affairs leadership


Minimum Required:
  • PhD, MD, PharmD, DO, or other recognized doctorate level education

  • Experience in neuromodulators (botulinum toxins / neurotoxins), Dermatology, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and/or other relevant specialties


Minimum Required:
  • 2 years of Medical Information experience in a life science, pharmaceutical, or medical device company;
  • Has the experience, desire, and initiative to deliver superior services to internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain credible medical / scientific relationships with KOLs in Dermatology, Plastics, and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment across geographic areas
  • Capability to work independently or in a cross-functional team structure and to adjust effectively to work within new structures, processes, requirements, or cultures
  • Working knowledge of drug development, regulatory approval processes, clinical trial methodologies, and guidelines
  • Knowledge of PhRMA, OIG, and other regulatory guidelines relating to compliant medical and scientific communications
  • Proficient with a variety of software solutions that allow for virtual communication

  • 3-4 years of Medical Information experience; 1+ years MSL experience with an expertise in neuromodulators (botulinum toxins / neurotoxins), Dermatology, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and/or other relevant specialties
  • 2-5 years post professional degree work experience, practice, or other relevant transferrable experience (e.g. clinical practice, academic research, regulatory / scientific experience, etc.)
  • Knowledge of customer segments and market dynamics within Dermatology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Experience in at least 1 "start-up" / pre-commercialization company

Minimum Required:
  • Scientific and pharmaceutical knowledge and/or experience
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to manage and support multiple projects and relationships (both internal and external to Revance)
  • Strong team player with leadership skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to effectively learn, teach, and convey clinical and non-clinical technical information
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software

  • Understanding of the drug commercialization process and approval process
