The Vice President of Strategy and Performance, reporting to the Health Plan COO, leads and plays a transformational role in driving UHCs CA Market strategy toward Value Based offerings and new innovative and integrated tools in order to enhance member and provider experience over the next 12-36 months. This role will lead the efforts both internally and externally with our providers to drive the data connectivity build and transformation needed to execute on our 5 year CA vision, as well as serve as the chief architect and strategic leader to assure execution of the capabilities on the NICE platform, including the migration to Polaris to make sure these innovations unique to our market are not lost.


This broad-based role requires the highest degree of integrity and ability to engage and influence at the senior-most levels of our organization as well as our provider partner organizations. The individual should be a strong communicator with the ability to build enduring trusting relationships and an understanding of how to accomplish objectives both directly and through influence in other areas of the business.

California is one of the most unique and complex health insurance markets in the nation, which requires an innovative thinker who can navigate these market dynamics and execute the critical components of UHCs growth objectives across markets and segment lines of businesses throughout the state.

Primary Responsibilities:

    "
  • Manage the provider specific operating plans that support the Healthcare For Your Life member experience vision; 24/7 on-line appointment scheduling, consolidated patient health records, portable individual health record etc.

  • Lead Provider Group development and partnership to drive enterprise UHG value
  • "
  • Continuously collaborate with key provider partners to influence and improve their interoperability, efficiency, and quality of service
  • "
  • Continue the CA Drs Plan/Canopy implementation and manage the 5 year Master Collaboration Agreement
  • "
  • Create and Execute the Project Plan for the Managed FFS/Doctors Plan Product in the South
  • "
  • Support Custom Development for HMOs/MMPs for long range planning and customer acquisition (i.e., UC SYSTEM, CALPERS, etc.)
  • "
  • Instill a culture of continuous process improvement and innovation
  • "
  • Manage the Business Requirements for the Polaris Migration For NICE
  • "
  • Ensure strategic objectives for UHC CA E&I technology capabilities on the HMO NICE platform align and are incorporated with the overall UHG strategic goals and visa versa
  • "
  • Ensure new UHC tools and capabilities apply to both UNET and NICE platforms to support both our PPO and HMO members
  • "
  • Participate in leadership discussions regarding new technology introduction and/or CA system planning activities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 15+ years of related healthcare experience

  • Familiarity with provider contracts, provider systems, and related initiatives

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and business planning abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to do project management, drive execution and implementation

  • Background with process improvement work
  • "
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and working in a matrixed environment

  • You will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's US Telecommuting Policy.
