Your Role and Responsibilities
The Sr. Technical Writer creates, updates and enhances documentation which includes, but is not limited to technical deliverables from several areas of the organization, training materials, help text, user manuals, and process documentation, through collaboration with management, other teams, and/or the client. This role will interface with various cross-functional teams which are responsible for specific products or technologies. Candidates should be innovative, self-motivated individuals who are comfortable working in a fast paced, agile environment.

The Sr. Technical Writer will support the Missouri Enterprise Data Warehouse long-term project onsite in Jefferson City, MO, or remotely through strategically demonstrating a solid understanding of the business and work with the project team from a delivery and strategic perspective.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Independently support multiple projects, products, tools and processes through researching and writing deliverables and documentation.
  • Independently identifies and proposes new documentation based on tool or process enhancements.
  • Independently identifies existing document and deliverable updates and communicates changes to the team to ensure all deliverables, training and documentation is updated accordingly.
  • Takes ownership of documentation as needed and understands the big picture and relationship between documentation, written deliverables and the success of the project.
  • Proactively seeks leadership teams and clients feedback and proposes enhancements to documentation based on user feedback.
  • Networks with and leads discussions with Subject Matter Experts, developers, product managers, project managers, etc. to support products, tools and processes.
  • Independently coordinates and supports all aspects of assigned documentation from development to delivery - including the delivery schedule, development of the documentation plan and work estimates.
  • Independently prepares the documentation plan with minimal manager input. This includes identifying the format, content, and obtaining approval from the project team and Account Executive.
  • Pays close attention to detail to ensure all deliverables are identified, completed professionally with polish and work estimates are appropriate.
  • Ensures the plan includes a method for tracking status of deliverable and documentation.
  • Creates, organizes and manages the documentation sites for the project on Box and/or SharePoint.
  • Develops and posts content on internal sites. Maintains Box or SharePoint sites, access, and document libraries to ensure documentation is easily accessed and accurate.
  • Mentors less experienced writers, as needed.
  • Sets up weekly status meetings to answer questions and obtain status updates for projects. Follows-up with manager on status and communicates any roadblocks, issues, knowledge gaps, and success stories.
  • Proactively identifies and proposes new writer projects and project schedule to the Account Executive and follows through with the Project Manager Lead.

  • Understands organizations climate, culture and organizational limitations.
  • Leads and influences others in developing effective and high-quality documentation.
  • Develops, communicates, and implements plans based on project/department objectives.
  • Implements and supports single-sourcing and structured authoring, as necessary.
  • Builds collaborative relationships with other teams or areas within the company.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • 7+ years experience as a technical writer
  • Ability to produce grammatically and typographically correct documentation consistent with corporate or professional style guides
  • Visual design skills (use of white space, illustrations and graphics)
  • Understanding of technical writing concepts, tools, standards, and methods, as acquired in a Technical Writing degree or certificate program
  • Knowledge of information architecture pertaining to help system concepts (workflow, context-sensitive help, minimalism, usability, etc.)
  • Strong customer focus and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with graphics manipulation and tools
  • Emotional intelligence when handling a variety of situations, clients, stakeholders to successfully accomplish companys goals
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and welcome (even pursue) others ideas while acting as a team player positively embracing change, collaborating effectively, welcoming new ideas
